Top 10 Instagram Spots in Barcelona

Barcelona has numerous instagrammable places and this selection was truly difficult. Such a rich architectural and artistic place is an endless source of inspiration, and from the landscapes to the smallest details  there are millions of photos waiting for you in the stunning city.

Following the success of Top 10 Instagram Spots in Lisbon and in Porto, today I'll bring to you my Top 10 Instagram Spots in Barcelona. These are not the only and surely my photos may not be the best you can find, but this will give you some ideas of the places you can't miss on your Instagram folie once you arrive at Barcelona.

1. SAGRADA FAMILIA

The Sagrada Família is one of the most iconic churches in the world and is with no doubt the undisputed symbol of Barcelona. In construction since 1882, the Basílica is a work in progress and is expected to be completed by 2026. Although he was not the architect initially chosen to design the Basílica, soon Gaudí was commissioned to carry out the project to which he devoted much of his time and energy. Until the time of his death, in 1926, Gaudí was able to complete the crypt and the Nativity facade.

2. PARK GUELL

Parc Güell is a public park and a touristic hotspot of Barcelona. But don't get me wrong. Although is always crowded is quite an amazing place to visit and one of the sites where the imagination and geniality of Gaudí can be fully appreciated. The colored and bright Trecandis mosaic are absolutely amazing and the organic shapes chosen for the construction of the arcades, benches and gatehouses give an almost surrealistic ambience to the site.

3. CASA MILÀ (LA PEDRERA)

In Eixample district we find Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera, a true architectural land mark of Barcelona and one of the must see attractions of the city. Casa Milà is an apartment block designed by Antoni Gaudì and built between 1906 and 1912. This modernist building, inspired by nature and its organic forms, integrates the fantastic vision of Gaudi with the functional demands and comfort expectations of a rich family of the beginning of the twentieth century. Since 1984 Casa Milà  was declared an Unesco World Heritage Site due to its outstanding universal value.

4. LA BOQUERIA MARKET

Today, La Boqueria market is the oldest and more famous food market in the city, attracting buyers from all over the world. It offers fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, spices and sweets, presented in carefully decorated stalls. Usually crowded with visitors, La Boqueria is a space full of life and animation that without a doubt deserves your visit.

5. LA BARCELONETA

During the nineteenth century La Barceloneta played an important part on the industrial development of the city with large factories that today no longer exist. The landscape of the neighborhood changed dramatically with the 1992 Olympics, with the recuperation of the urban infrastructures, the creation of beautiful beaches lined with white sand and palm trees and rigorous standards of coastal water quality.

6. PARC DE LA CIUTADELLA

Built in 1869 on the grounds of the city's military citadel, Parc de la Ciutadella is the largest park in Barcelona and a real oasis of tranquility. With 18 hectares, the park houses the Barcelona Zoo, two museums, the Catalunya Parliament, lakes, fountains and beautiful lawns.
Do you know Gaudí participated in the project for this monumental fountain when he was a young architect?

7. ARC DE TRIOMF

The Arc de Triomf, gateway to the world fair of 1888, is the most imposing entrance to the park and an iconic landmark of Barcelona. The large promenade ( Passeig Lluís Companys) connecting the gardens to the arch is always full of people and animation.

8. MIES VAN DER ROHE PAVILLION

The Barcelona Pavilion, design by Mies van der Rohe (1886-1969), is an emblematic work of the Modern Movement.  This Pavilion is a rigorous exercise of geometry, precision and simplicity.  The beauty of the forms, the combination of colors and textures of the materials, the richness of the decorative stones, the elements of design and art, make this Pavilion a special place that is difficult to leave.

9. THE BLOCK OF DISCORD

The Block of Discord, located in Passeig de Gràcia between calle Aragó and calle Consell de Cent,  features the most famous collection of modernist buildings sharing the same facade in Barcelona.  At number 35 is Casa Lleò Morera, designed by Domènech i Montaner. At number 41 is Casa Amatller, designed by Puig i Cadafalch. Finally, at number 43 is Casa Batlló, a work by Gaudí. The block was so-named after the contrasts between the different architectural trends displayed by the three houses built between 1900 and 1907 by the three rival modernist architects.

10. MONTJUIC

Spite of its more ancestral occupations, it was the World Exposition of 1929 and the Olympic games of 1992 that bring Montjuïc  in to the city. The Palau Nacional, other palaces and infrastructures  in Montjuïc, including the wide mountain parc, were built for the World Exposition, but the full development of the hill come with the Olympic Games  with the construction of the stadium and of several sport facilities.
