Lisbon Chronicles | Parque das Nações
The Parque das Nações (Park of Nations) neighborhood, situated in the eastern part of Lisbon, includes the new urban area of the city arisen following the World Expo 1998, which, since then, grew and took on a very particular dynamic, both in the cultural, commercial and business areas.
Characterized by its contemporary architecture and the extensive leisure and entertainment facilities, the Parque das Nações quickly won the hearts of Lisbon habitants and the delight of its visitors. In the architectural level the outstanding vaults of the Oriente Train Station, by Santiago Calatrava, and the Pavilion of Portugal, by the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, capture immediately our attention.
Among the cultural facilities is worth visiting the Museum of Science and Technology which features several interactive exhibits and the Lisbon Oceanarium, one of the largest aquariums in the world. The neighborhood also has an Arena (Atlantic Pavilion) which hosts various shows and a cable car that transports travelers along the bank of the Tagus, allowing stunning views of the Parque das Nações and the estuary. The Parque has also a modern marina, several hotels and restaurants and a casino with a Theater room.
When visiting Lisbon one must visit Parque das nações area and, depending on your interests, visit museums, go shopping or walking or cycling along the river. The hotel offer in this part of the city is quite large and is just minutes from the old town of Lisbon, whether you choose to travel by car or subway (Oriente Station in the Red Line).
