When it's cold outside, I love a mug of steaming tea by the fire place or, already in bed, just before going to sleep. But now, that Spring is here, having tea is the nicest pretext to go somewhere and seat with a friend chatting, tasting some delicious sweet or savory treats and trying some new tea blends.
I'll be presenting you some of the nicest places to have a great afternoon tea in Lisbon, or wherever I happen to go. This series will be named Tea for Two (you and me!) and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I will.
Today we'll have tea at Audrey's Café, a lovely place in Alfama neighborhood, that belongs to Santiago de Alfama Hotel (one of the featured hotels in our Valentine's article). The café and bar rooms are absolutely gorgeous, with a careful and tasteful decoration (blues, browns and beijes are always a winner to me) and the atmosphere is calm and relaxed. If you want more dynamism and animation, when the weather is good, you can have you tea on the terrace, facing the street.
The afternoon tea at Audrey's Café follows the Portuguese tradition of having mainly sweets with your tea. Always remember some epic afternoon teas held by an aunt of a childhood friend, where we eat our weight in cake and bread with marmelada (not orange marmalade, but a tradicional Portuguese jam, made of quince), all washed down with several cups of tea.
Good old days! But let me leave memory lane and come back to Audrey's. You will have some of the best cupcakes I have ever tasted. Light, not too sweet, with the right amount of cream (mine had delicious lemon cream) and toped whit a flower or some other nice decoration. There are also macarons (perfect!), scones with home made jams and an additional pastry that will change everyday (I had a chocolate pastry. Sounds good, doesn't it?).
The tea served is organic, from the renown brand Ronnefelbt. You can choose from several varieties like English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Green Tea, Camomile, Lemon, Mint and Red Fruits.
After walking around in Alfama, Audrey's can be the right place to rest and relax for a moment, enjoying a nice tea. The friendly staff of Hotel Santiago de Alfama will welcome you and treat you attentively and with a smile.

DeleteWhat a lovely place! Lisbon has so many cool cafes, been there this October! If only I´d knew about this place back then - wouldn´t miss Audrey´s cafe and these pastries!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely! The afternoon tea is very nice, but you can have other things there and is right on the heart of Alfama, next to Miradouro de Sta Luzia. Thank you for your comment!
