Trick or Treat | 6 Spooky Ways of Celebrating Halloween in Lisbon

Halloween tradition is relatively new to Portugal, but the party loving Portuguese easily get into the Halloween spirit and you can find lots of party and activities both in Lisbon and in the rest of the country. But let's stick to Lisbon and give you some suggestions of what you can do to get in the spooky mood of the season.

HALLOWEEN AFTERNOON TEA AT THE CORINTHIA HOTEL LISBON

Corinthia Hotel Lisbon will help you to celebrate the scariest time of year with a delicious Halloween Afternoon Tea, available at the Tempus Lounge Bar from 30 October to 5 November from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The menu consists of a variety of herbal teas, watermelon juices, pancakes with whipped cream and berries, muffins, chocolate pastries and a selection of cheeses and fruits, all created with scary but delicious details.

HALLOWEEN NIGHT AT AJUDA'S BOTANICAL GARDEN

The Ajuda'S Botanical Garden invites you to spend some fun moments among the terrors of Halloween. The main objective of the event is to discover the Jardim Botânico da Ajuda at night, amidst laughter and play (I'm sure the kids will love it!). The program, starting at 6:30 p.m., will consist of a pumpkin contest, a walk of terror (more specifically with an Alice in the Garden of Terror), and a masked contest. Between 7:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., there will be a themed buffet at the premises of the Estufa Real restaurant. The party with candlelight and lantern lighting, where the lighted pumpkins will be a source of mystery, will be visited by witches, vampires, ghosts and all that the imagination of everyone will bring!

LISBOA HALLOWEEN PARADE

On the night of October 31st, for the 4th time in a row, the Areeiro district will hold the biggest Lisbon parade devoted to Halloween. At the Lisbon Halloween Parade there are no limits to fantasies, let alone for age. The initiative promises to bring thousands of vampires, zombies, werewolves and witches to the neighborhood and at the end there are prizes for the best costumes.

HALLOWEEN AT THE HARD ROCK CAFE LISBOA

The spookiest night of the year is also arriving at the Hard Rock Cafe Lisboa, that will dress up to celebrate Halloween! Decorated to match the most dreadful time of the year, there will be two days of programming for adults and children. On the night of October 31, a  DJ Session will shake the night and there will be a contest to find the most terrifying mask. The next day there is a small, terrifying breakfast for the little ones! Because Halloween must be accompanied with an according meal, between the 26th and 31st of October the Hard Rock Cafe will offer its customers the chance to taste our Halloween Voodoo Burger, and the Evil Eye Cocktail, a blend of tropical and spicy flavors accompanied by an edible eye (spooky, right?).

HALLOWEEN FESTIVAL AT EVOLUTION HOTEL IN LISBON

If you love to dance and party, get a costume and head to Evolution Hotel, in Lisbon. In addition to evil clowns, chainsaws, and cobwebs, there will be blood and (not less important) Gin!  The evening will be lively to the sound of a DJ and there will be an exclusive drinks menu.

HALLOWEEN SPECIAL AT CINE SOCIETY

If you love a good movie and are in the mood for strong emotions you can go the open air cinema of Cine Society (in Chiado neighborhood), on October 31st, from 8:30 p.m., to see the bizarre Orange Clockwork, from Stanley Kubrick, a film nominated for 4 Oscars in 1972. Tickets are available on-line.
