First let me explain for those reading that are not Portuguese, what is a "Prego" (nail). If we are talking about food, Prego is a sandwich in which the filling is a beef steak, often spiced with mustard.
And a Prego da Peixaria (Prego from the fishery), what is it? Although not yet have tasted all I can say is that Peixaria’s Pregos are good and that if you have not yet had one, please do not rely on what I say and go experience it for yourself. If you do not like meat, there is no problem, in the Peixaria there are choices of fish and even vegetarians are not forgotten, so no excuses not to go eat a Prego.
I already knew O Prego da Peixaria from Time Out Market in Praça da Ribeira (a Central Market in Lisbon with a food court), and since then visited the restaurant in Saldanha (a square in Lisbon). It is a casual restaurant with an attractive decor and where despite the house being full, the service has always maintained an exemplary level. The food is very tasty and the quality of the ingredients is indisputable. Beef loin melts down in the mouth, the bread ("bolo do caco", a tradicional bread form Madeira island) is delicious and the desserts that we choose were just as I like them, tasty but not overly sweet.
The Menu includes five types of Pregos (Yupie is my favorite!), each with its own name, which are accompanied by chips, where we can choose between thin thin sliced potatoes or sweet potato french fries (just delicious). For those who prefer fish, you can choose the cuttlefish, cod or shrimp burgers (cod is a delight and in a different visit I've tried the cuttlefish and shrimp that I didn't find so interesting). The meal can be accompanied by natural juices, freshly prepared, among other drinks. Finally, nothing like experience (or share) a dessert. The chocolate mouse with caramelized banana is a delight and the apple carpaccio with cinnamon ice cream is very refreshing.
In my two visits to O Prego Peixaria, Saldanha I was joining with some friends who had not seen for some time and therefore was a doubly rewarding experience. But even if you have no company for lunch, the tasty food made with quality ingredients, the good service and an affordable price, will surely contribute to some well past moments.
